This will spoil the end if you haven't read it. I'm looking for people that have read and can explain if I'm misremembering some details or something.

So I got this book free from Amazon prime a few months ago. It wasn't until last night that I saw it had a lot of reviews almost all overwhelmingly positive.

But I just don't get it. I felt like the ending was a cheap way to get a twist. Of course I didn't see it coming because every other chapter I was reading from the wife's perspective where I'm seeing her internal dialogue which gave no indication that she was involved.

Idk I'm not a huge reader and def not one who usually analyzes what I read but I felt like it was a cheap trick and I am thoroughly surprised to see it getting such rave reviews.

I read this one a while back after the author had a big social media marketing push. After getting her ads via IG over and over, I read it (for free).

I thought it was fine. It was clearly inspired by Gone Girl, but the execution was not at the same level at all. It was a fairly quick read, but not one I’d recommend to others. I was a little turned off by the absolute zero likable characters in the story. I got the feeling the wife was trying to conceal the truth to the reader. I’m sure if I went back for a re-read there would be hints pointing to the twist, but I didn’t like it enough for a re-read so idk.

Yeah I had that thought while typing this up. That there were probably hints but I have no desire to read it again.

My thoughts exactly!! I just finished reading it it less than 30 minutes ago and I'm extremely disappointed. I feel like the author couldn't decide who to pin it on and at the last minute thought "oh let's pin it on the wife". It sucks cause I actually liked the book at first but now I'm feeling like it was a waste of time.

Yeah I enjoyed the book enough until the "twist". If it was a movie and I wasn't actually reading her internal dialogue I can get behind it. Like the only way it could make sense is if she was keeping it a secret from herself as well. Idk hadn't thought about this book in a while and I'll go back to doing that I guess
