Tolkien's Ents is one example: Quickbeam, treebeard.

Another might be based on events in their lives "Struck-by-lightning", or "Carved-by-human"

It'll never be what they actually call each other, but a rendering so that your readers can identify them

That's exactly it. Since I'm writing in English and not in roots touching each other I need to translate so I need an appropriate way to convey that while still staying true to the essence of it being a tree.

Well, names are hard. Can make or break a story. Could be Billy, Bob and Sue but what would those names imply? Decide their names and you'll set their characters on a certain path. Maybe one's Knotty or a Reaches or one is Oak IV.

Well thank you. I appreciate the direction I should head. I knew about r/books but not r/writing. I'll move my queries on this topic elsewhere from now on.
