And I think it’s well worth the wait. This summer I read my first 4 McCarthy novels and he’s become my favorite author (living or dead). This line from The Passenger absolutely wrecked me, “When you carry a child in your arms it will turn its head to see where it’s going. Not sure why. It’s going there anyway”. This book is incredible, C.M. Is incredible. So lucky to be able to read him while he’s still living.

Very interesting line. I haven’t read any of his novels but a few friends have recommended him over the years. What did you start with? Since starting this new one of his, do you think it would it make sense to work backwards?

No Country For Old Men or The Road are his easiest to get into. I had to listen to Blood Meridian to finally finish it.

Lots of good starting points - The Road and No Country are his most approachable, Outer Dark and All the Pretty Horses would be good too

I am 100 pages in and am having the opposite feeling, unfortunately. It's incomprehensible. The sections in italics are the absolute worst. The trans charachter Debbie sticks out and is poorly written. I feel like I'm reading someone describe an idea for a book they had, rather than like I'm actually reading one, you know?
I'm very glad the general consensus here is positive. I'm gonna try and keep reading.

I would highly suggest not starting with The Passenger or Blood Merridian. They are both quite difficult reads. No Country for Old Men is probably your best point of entry. Or maybe The Road. The Road is great but the fact that it doesn't have any chapters can be a pain.

I am at page 139 and am indeed enjoying it as well, it's not blowing me away as of yet - but I am still excited daily to get back to reading it.

I absolutely loved it, and think it just got better and better as it went along. It’s definitely different than his other stuff, more Pynchon and Kafka in it pthan we’ve seen previously, but the central themes are still very much McCarthy. I’m putting this one up with Blood Meridian and Suttree as one of his best works.
