Read the last page

Is it only me that starts a bok by reading the last page and then go on to read the book. You’d think that i would spoil the book but it doesn’t really. The less you know about the book prior to reading it, the better the last page routine experience will be.

When I read The Kite Runner, I read the last page first. Didn’t really understand. It seemed random. However, when I read throug the book and got to the last page, it hit different, very different. And this works with almost every book.

Personally I see absolutely zero reason to do this. But, you do you. Individual reading quirks are not judged.

Absolutely no thank you. If you want a book to hit different, reread the entire story from start to finish.

Not in a million years will I ever do this. Want to know why? Because the author put the words in a specific order, and I respect that.

My dad did this. We all thought he was crazy. He said it was how he knew if he wanted to read the whole book. I could never do that though.

But more like to know which character would the book be ending on?
Is the ending sad? Is it happy?
And yes, it does hit different.

Ooooh, knowing which character the book ends on is always a thing I like to be aware of. It’s fun to know that before we meet the POV characters.

I used to do this when I was younger, it was almost a compulsion! I couldn't focus on what I was reading because I was thinking of that last page.

I've grown out of it now, not sure why or when, but I don't do it any more

If I'm trying to decide whether to read a book, I read a random page in the middle. You skip to the book's actual style.

I don’t but this is because I tend to already know everything that will happen before I choose to read a book. Plot, spoilers, everything. Before tons of online reviews were so available I used to read a chapter (or some pages) from the beginning, middle, and end before purchasing; so I guess I sort of read the last page; just in a broader context.

Like, is reading the whole book from Page 1 to the last page a different experience than reading the last page first, then reading the whole book including the last page?

I like reading (or at least knowing the gist of) the endings of books first, I’m with you. I’m autistic and I like to know what kind of emotional vibe I need to prepare to bring into the book. If the book is good then knowing the ending won’t ruin it, anyway; I like character and prose a lot more than plot.

I tend to do this as well. Normally I read the last sentence of the book to insure that my interest peaks and I have a reason to finish the book.

An unanswered question is normally the best thing that keeps be reading.

I don't do it purposefully but I usually can't resist skipping to the last page and reading the last word, and then maybe if I get the urge later on I'll read the whole last sentence. Usually it doesn't spoil anything. Sometimes it summarises the message of the book. The rest of the time it is completely random and unsatisfying.

I usually read the last page of a book when I'm almost halfway through it. But that didn't change anything when I read it and made me more enthusiastic to quickly finish it sheet by sheet.

I used to do this when I was a little kid. I still had the habit to take a look at the last page, until recently when I accidentally saw a major spoiler when I was trying to find out how long my book was. Never again.

I do this too. Sometimes I tear the last page from the book. Similarly to the doctor, I don't like endings. 😁

To be clear, I don’t do this so i can see if i like the stule of the book. I do this so the ending hit harder when I’m done reading
