Is it still like a red light district or is that more of a historic thing?

It's both. I would love to see it revitalized into a vibrant adult entertainment area, I'm just not sure how to do that.

I totally agree. If it was an area of adult attractions( comedy clubs, real burlesque shows, cabarets as well as strip clubs) it could be revived. Currently it's a kind of ugly strip that scares tourists.

Exactly. There's enough audience out there to support a variety of adult venues and co-locating them for walkability makes sense. Done right it attracts both locals and tourists.

Does anyone think that sex / human trafficking is a factor in that area?

I heard that area used to be way bigger but the city eventually contained it into that block area. Sex work, drugs, and a bunch of other unfortunate and deplorable activites take place there now.

As far as i can tell, the area could be better if like another poster said, they set up a comedy club, actual burlesque shows, and a couple of eating and drink spots.

If it still looked like it did mid-century, with vibrant marques, classy burlesque clubs and what not, I would be all about it sticking around.

As it is, I wouldn’t shed a tear if it went away.

It’s a waste of some of the city’s most valuable real estate, plus it’s just super seedy. Also, most of the clubs are only open for like 2-3 hours a day so yeah the space would be better used by businesses that attract a more diverse crowd and are open throughout the day & night. Personally I think local food would be great, especially since the harbor is a lot of tourist crap like ihop etc.
