I don't know if it will be replaced, but the author of the Dredd Scott opinion does not deserve to be honored with a statue.

I couldn't have told you who it was but when I saw it was gone figured they did something undesirable and there was pressure to remove it which is fine. I just hope they replace it with another comparable statue

Let’s outlaw all statues. No one is above the flaw!

Thank god you arrived to defend the Dredd Scott decision!

Say what you want, Taney didn’t defect to the Confederacy. He also never owned slaves unlike that prick George Washington who’s monument is still up.

That’s quite a stretch, virtue man.

I’m good with avoiding statues of individuals. A statue honoring soldiers of a given conflict, or the proffession of Nursing, sure.

Lionizing a particular person begs to become irrelevant at best, or worse, as in this case: dude loved slavery.

No, it’s quite clear. Sometimes people simply agree and disagree on various aspects and aren’t phased despite the assumptions and simplistic, course accusations of others.

We should put up Douglass and Tubman statues on the east and west sides of Mt Vernon Pl to match Howard and Lafayette

I walk by Fred’s head every day and wonder why it’s in that specific location. It’s almost hidden for being such a large sculpture of an iconic figure.

Baltimore needs a Billie Holiday statue. Can we all agree on that?

There already is one! It is over on Pennsylvania Avenue!

Billie Holiday is cool but she really didn't spend to much time in Baltimore and her time here sucked a lot.

mrbushyeyes t1_iv7619l wrote

This is true. She was born in Philly, moved to Baltimore as a young child, and then moved to NYC by the time she was 14.

This article talks about the beginning of the removal process.

I'd like to see figures or art commissioned by the city from local bipoc artists as reparations.

And there’s murals up and down S Durham street. The Billie Holiday statue is one of my favorites.
