Really unsure why our $500 million police budget can't cover security for two events that have been going on annually for decades and are well planned in advance then...

It could be there just aren’t enough cops to cover both events. I know they’ve had staffing issues, not sure if that’s the case but it’s possible.

Well. It is expensive to block traffic and also make everyone feel less safe by being present I guess.

It's a matter of staffing. So this is overtime, and finding officers who want to work overtime isn't easy, so they end up drafting people. And the issue is that as the number of cops has dropped, it's not like the number of posts needed has changed. There needs to be a bigger discussion around BPD not being available to staff all of the traffic posts.

If only there was some way they could use $500 million to hire more cops... If only there was $ome way to incentivize people to do become police officer$...

They have the money to hire them and the highest pay in the state. Incentives for residency and college.

No one wants this job anymore. It's an issue everywhere, not just here.
