Looking for some recommendations of decent golf courses under 50$ within an hour drive if the city. Ive played mt. pleasant and enjoyed it, ive heard there are some good values not too far up by PA. Any recommendations appreciated.

It may be too close to PA for your liking, but Westminster National in Carrol County is quite affordable and really an outstanding course.

I play a lot of golf in the Baltimore area and would definitely recommend pine ridge especially in terms of value. It is a city course like mount pleasant but being in Timonium it in no way has the feel of a city course.

I like playing the county courses. https://baltimoregolfing.com/.

Outside of peak season weekend morning tee times they fit that budget. Additionally, they have an advantage card ($35/yr last I paid) for additional discounts and coupons.

I have a player card so that's a factor I guess but I have played there over 50 times and never payed over $50. I also walk and play in the afternoon though but if you want value golf that's what have to do. Not sure how high the rates get in the morning off hand. I would think it's still pretty reasonable and around $50

Fairway Hills in Columbia was a good value this weekend. It's hilly, but walking is only $39.

City courses - Forest Park and Clifton Park are sporty and short but fun. Haven't played CP in years but conditioning is spotty.

County courses - Rocky Pt is a good track and fun in the fall/winter as it stays warmer close to the water. Fox Hollow is shorter and sporty. Diamond Ridge has had issues with grass/fairways for a while and I've avoided it.

Gunpowder is a links-style course north of Laurel that takes maybe 40 minutes to get to down 95. I’ve been playing there since college (well over a decade), and it’s a cheaper yet challenging course. Last time I was there, it was probably around $20 to walk 18, and the ticket is open all day (you could play a round, leave for lunch, and then go back to play again).

The University of Maryland has a great golf course. The rates vary on the time of day and day of week.

Was gonna suggest Greystone but looks like their rates might have gone up a bit. Swear I used to pay $40 for 18 with a cart and that was like 2 years ago

Totally worth getting the player card, for either the Classic 5 courses (4 courses in the city + Pine Ridge) or the Baltimore County courses. Pays it back very quickly in my experience

Already been said, but check out Pine Ridge, up by Loch Raven, that was our regular course before we joined an affordable club up there. The Baltimore County courses are a bit more expensive but maybe a little nicer

Forest Park, Mt. Pleasant, and Clifton are solid, affordable courses. Carroll Park is a great place for a 75 min 9 holes in the morning before work, or if you are learning. Short but fun and very cheap.

Just looked, and for the weekend of 11/12 it's $41 to walk 18 during the prime morning weekend spots. (with player card and winter rates) Typically like $54-70 in the summers depending upon day/time IIRC

Bay Hills is in Arnold. Depending on where you live in the city, that’s within an hour. Cheap course and pretty well maintained

Rocky Point and the Baltimore County card is the best deal close by if you walk. Pilgrims Oak in PA is right about an hour but the best value for the money by a landslide. Ruggles on APG you can walk for like $15 in the offseason. It's not a great course, but for $15 it's worth it just to get out there and play.

There are two Baltimore Classic Course memberships you can get - one for the city and one for the county. You get discounted rates at the local courses.

Out of the city courses, I’ve played Mt Pleasant and Pine Ridge. Pine Ridge is nice.

Out for the county courses I’ve played Diamond Ridge, Rocky Point, and Fox Hallow. First two are nice and prices aren’t bad at all. Fox Hallow is ok and close by
