Hey everyone, (another moving to Baltimore post but I promise I went through the other ones first). I’m going to be working in Columbia MD and plan to commute. I’m looking to rent an apartment. I like to have something that has a view of the skyline and also in a neighbourhood with that has nightlife and also amenities like gyms etc. A few people suggested a building called The Standard or it’s neighbouring areas. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks!

Having done the Columbia commute for a couple years until COVID, sticking to Federal Hill and Locust Point will save you like 8 minutes in the morning and 12-15 in the evening. There are also a bunch of bars and gyms there so those neighborhoods are probably where you should be looking.
That said I did this commute living in Mt Vernon and it was fine for the most part. It was kind of too much when I had a baby but before that it was aight. That neighborhood has a big gym (Merritt downtown) as well a couple small ones - City Fit, MV Fitness, Charm City Crossfit, Lightnig Quick Fit (boxing), and a bunch of bars / restaurants / music venues. Crowd skews older there than in Federal Hill though.
Would also just tell you to rent a rowhome with a roof deck, that's where the value for your housing dollar is at lol
My parents live in 1101 St Paul and I really like their view. Would pony up for the garage parking just to save time looking for parking in the evening, getting home from Columbia at 6-ish means you're fighting with the symphony / restaurant / theater crowds

Difficult to give good direction without a budget but stick to Fed Hill/Riverside/Locust Point if you want an easier commute

Stick to neighborhoods west of 83/President Street, south of Maryland Avenue, and closer to the water.
You can get a city and harbor view living in some buildings downtown for less than say in Federal Hill, but Downtown does not have bars and restaurants on every corner.
There are plenty of apartments buildings to choose from. The Standard would not be my first choice, but I have heard it is nice.

Very hard to recommend without knowing your budget but Anthem House/McHenry Row/Porter Street apartment buildings in Locust Point would be some of the easiest commutes for you.

Federal Hill will give you a good view of the sky line and put you south of downtown, Eliminating the tunnels from your commute.
