Hampden, Charles Village, Bolton Hill, and Mount Vernon are your best bet imo. North Charles is cool to hang around, but i've never checked for apartments.

I would add south Remington/Old Goucher neighborhoods as well, especially with their proximity to Station North/Mid-town and slightly cheaper rents. Lots of artist spaces/co-ops also opening up around there.

I like Mount Vernon personally since it's very central but Hampden is also cute

I am an artist and have been here for 10 years. The old artsy areas, Station North, Hampden, Patterson, have gotten expensive. Studio spaces are more commercial and through the roof. What is your budget? I am in Charles Village, very walkable to Station North and Hampden, but costs are high. I recommend thinking creatively about studio space. Rent a room where they have a basement or garage you can use, or something like that. The last time I looked for outside space I was pretty shocked by the closets places were calling studios.

Mount Vernon and Bolton Hill have the most galleries, art events (including artscape), and art stores. They’re also close to plenty of bars and restaurants. Bodegas aren’t really a thing here, but there are a few grocery stores.

They’re also where MICA and the BSA is located. So lots of artists and art students.

Only problem is they’re way more expensive than other neighborhoods.

On Bodegas Mt Vernon has this one Asian owned corner store that has decent food and seasonings, around the corner off Eager St. there is proper deli and grocery store type spot, and then across the street from Starbucks there is University Mart.

There are Ethiopian and Asian markets that also cook their own food somewhere not far off from the library. I haven't gone yet but this woman who owns a bookstore said the Ethiopian place is good.

The only proper bodegas is "El Bodegon" in Fells Point near Johnny Rads.

I think to be a true bodega they have to have general goods and a deli that cooks food on the spot. Bonus points if they have a cat and a dude who sells mid out front lmao.

Interesting this subject comes up but I just stumbled upon this Zillow listing (https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1612-McHenry-St-Baltimore-MD-21223/294976026_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare) this morning and reading the description it sounds like they are renovating 20 houses and targeting artists. It’s in Mount Clare so your boarding the up and coming Pigtown with plenty of walkable spots (old Major, Pickett, Wico, suspended, Zekes), Hollins Market ( redoing of the market, Zella’s and Backyard), and Union square. I wouldn’t say it’s desirable but I’d say it looks a lot like a Highlandtown situation 10-15 years ago. If anyone has any insight on this project that would be great.
