Tax Accountant Recommendations

Does anyone have recommendations for personal tax accountants? The company we have used the last several years, while local and very nice, repeatedly forgets to file our taxes by the deadline.

I know most people use turbo tax, or another software. I'd rather work with a local person/entity.

I use Sheldon Brothers Tax Preparation, and if you have questions off season he’s more than happy to answer them. He spent a few hours going down an electric car rabbit hole for me when I was looking to buy one after the IRA passed. They are in Perry Hall, so not technically in the city though.

I have liked working with G-Wisz It’s Tax Time, my taxes got very complicated in 2021 due to selling two properties, one of them a rental, and a couple of other things and George worked hard to make sure everything was all proper and did much better than the software options. https://www.gwisztax.com/

I personally use Zelaya Tax in Packville. Its a small family shop but run by a lawyer and very good; I usually stop by and 20 mins later fed and state are filed and done with.

Are your taxes complicated or just standard job W2s? Asking because a lot of people pay for tax services they don’t actually need.

Semi-complicated. Multiple sources of income, kids, etc. It's also a time on task issue.

I get that, but unless you have a business you’re just flushing money down the drain. Even when I had rentals it would take me all of a couple hours to fill everything out and cost me around $20.

To each their own, but if you use the same software each year most of it is prefilled out and goes even faster. That’s all the accountant is doing and then charging you 20x more.

I always laugh when people complain about how “complicated” taxes are. You can find free to dirt cheap software that does it for you, walks you through each item, and submits for you. 99.9% of people have simple taxes.
