It honestly should be something touristy as much as it pains me to say, but also that shows off the city and lets city-based businesses more easily engage with tourists. National mall and boardwalk chains just ainā€™t it. They could also try to do a farmers market there or on McKeldon Plaza

Just spitballing but took a look at other cities with a Bay and I quite liked San Franciscoā€™s ā€œFerry Building,ā€ and I think if the city added a water taxi stop directly at the inner harbor that could be an attractive option for both tourists and residents alike to get between Harbor East/Fells and Downtown. And itā€™d add on to Baltimoreā€™s heritage of markets! Could incorporate a park in some way, and maybe some housing. But most of all, you should be able to see the water from Pratt Street and McKeldin Plaza should actually become a gathering place than a glorified pedestrian island.

I submitted these ideas.

Iā€™ll email this suggestion if commenting isnā€™t enough, but I think Baltimore should legitimately aim to mimic the V&A waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa. I was there in 2020 and all I could keep thinking was how cool it was, even though it was fairly touristy, and how great the Inner harbor would be if it mimicked the style. It acts as an area that obviously aims to attract a lot of tourists but is also not so overly touristy that the local community can also enjoy it. Idk if thereā€™s a way to study another cities successes like that, but I think itā€™s a great model to aim for
