Urban foxes are very common in London They were pulling our rubbish /garbage bags apart last year, so the whole area finally got food recycling bins

I see foxes are the racoons of England.
ElegantBob OP t1_j6993m7 wrote
Yeah exactly
They are sooooo cute
But they are a pest and I can see why people don’t want them around
But they are adorable….

Racoons can be pretty adorable when they don't catch you by surprise in the dark.
Nothing is funnier than catching a family of racoons trying to ransack a garbage can... They all kind of stare at you with their little masked faces just hoping you'll leave them alone.

I remember hearing some noise with the garbage cans at night and turned on my phone's flashlight.
Over half a dozen pairs of eyes were staring back at me.

Until they wake you at 3:22 a.m. screaming in heat. Although frankly raccoons make a right ruckus too, fighting over who gets to go into the garbage can first.

Yeah I have had years of the foxes screaming at night, and a previous place I live had the awful fox smell at the end of the garden.
So I don’t mind if the “go away” but also - part of me still loves how cute they are

They’re only a pest cause we’re dirty bastards who waste food and leave our shit around.
They don’t really cause any damage or issues aside from that.

Do they keep the rat population down?
ElegantBob OP t1_j6akx8m wrote
Interesting question, sadly I don’t know I hardly ever see any rats in London, certainly not enough to estimate if the numbers of them are changing

These look smaller than the ones I see in the US
ElegantBob OP t1_j69abyx wrote
Could be, British foxes are smaller than a Border Collie and have a slight build
