It's fascinating to watch their tail feathers move around to make small adjustments. We usually only get to see birds flying from far beneath them.

This might be the coolest shit ever. Other then maybe the dude in Brazil who has a penguin that swims thousands of miles to visit him every once in a while.

As is mentioned, this is more of a "pet" than a reunion in nature...
That said, birds will "fly in formation" with paraglider canopies in flight. I had an Osprey take a position off my wing tip on the Oregon Coast once, pretty frickin' awesome.

That is insane. It’s one thing to fly near him, but the trust demonstrated by landing on him is off the charts.

I don't remember if I read it or heard it on the radio but there was this description of a man going hunting for honey and he would whistle or call and this bird would show up and lead him to a tree where a hive was. The bird didn't have to deal with the bees and got some honey.
Bean_Juice_Brew t1_iydt7fl wrote
It's called the honeyguide; some African tribes have learned to follow these birds to honey; once the hive is cracked open, the bird gets some of the beeswax. You may have read it in "A Long Walk to Water," a novel that takes place in Africa.

Was also featured on a few different episodes of Planet Earth with David Attenborough

No it wasn't a novel. I'm trying to remember, it was someone, maybe an anthropologist? Anyway their takeaway was that they felt that the man, who they spend time with, had so much cultural knowledge that he was more able to live/survive/thrive in the world than someone in an "advanced" culture. (This isn't quite right but you get the idea.)
I think it was part of some kind of research into human adaptation or something. I think he had studied multiple people.
Wish I could remember.
