Now you’re officially part of the family.

You are very special. Torties are notoriously picky.
Rinniri t1_ixwcwjv wrote
That's funny, because our tortie loved everyone while her red grandmother only (cautiously) liked us and people with cat allergies.
Of course, we think there's a certain chance the woman we got them from lied about the familial relationship and the tortie was in fact a very odd-looking tiny dog ...

Ha! I've only had two torties but they both hide under our bed whenever people come over. I swear people thought we were making our first one up. The one we have now also hides but she will come out after a while and just stare, wide eyed at the "intruder".

When we got the grandmother she ran in under the couch and then we didn't see her for three days. She was always kind of anxious about everything, but she didn't really hide after that as long as one of her "safe people" were around.
Her granddaughter (when we got her a few years later) wandered out of her cage, looked around, and went "Yeah, sure, I live here now, and you guys belong to me".
She would however pick one guest and stare at them when we had visitors. And follow them around.

That happened to my brother, much to his chagrin.
