The outer layers of the cells that line your cheek are in constant turn over. Meaning it gets regenerated as you shed them and more grow underneath. In addition, bacteria are simply single cell organisms while your cheek has several layers of cells so you theoretically simply destroy the top layer but there is more underneath.
Since the bacteria has only 1 layer, its pretty much it. Its dead when the cell wall gets destroyed.
