I stared at my web of yarn, trying to find my mistake. My parents? The man who made gnomes for the craft fair and the grade school math teacher? Pyragon and DisTress? I had to be wrong. What were the odds I, of all people, would find the truth? Actually, looking at it, I was the only person who could have. I mean, there was the obvious "only someone living with them could match up there idiosyncrasies" bit, but more it was my abilities, his powers combined with her training had produced a very skilled individual. Not to brag, it's just fact. I thought my powers were a result of our field trip to the labs out in Tower, when I was exposed to the neutrino cloud. Now, I was realizing that "freak accident" only happened because of my powers. Ok, getting sidetracked, Ma would be upset. I accepted the facts as what they were, and got to the issue at hand: do I tell them I know? If I did, how would they respond?

Da would act happy but be concerned. He'd want to make sure I knew not to tell anyone, and that I didn't follow in Ma's footsteps. Or his.

Ma would be excited, but hide it from Da. She'd start training me more directly, though more behind his back. When he found out, there'd be a fight, then she'd accidentally trigger the mech suit she had hidden... Under his spot in the garage? Oh, that wouldn't go well when she busted his truck.

I could practically picture the fireblasts, tearing through the house, then the sky over our neighborhood, much like in their last battle.

What if I don't tell? We continue until I move out. But then, they are there with the empty nest. She'll get that itch, she'll miss the power, feel a bit bored and struggle to find a good hobby. Maybe do some consulting. Tinker on some tech. And at some point, he'll notice. And then a fight.

Those fireblasts of his come again, and again. If I just tell him, if I just tell her, always, it leads to a fight. And then I realize something I don't know. A factor that I can't pin. How did they stop fighting before? All my models, my calculations, none led a truce, an armistice, much less a marriage. I only realized they were alive because both disappeared at the same time.

I ran the footage of the fight again. The crash into the old observatory, an explosion of purple energy, then nothing. The observatory? I pull up my maps, both of the city and of Ma's secret labs. Of course!

The purple energy was a mind wipe! He didn't know! He didn't know. And she likely had improved the system. How often did she wipe his mind? I had to tell him.

As he turned, there was a brief flash of purple, and he went catatonic.

"Oh, my darling," she whispered, stroking her son's hair. "So very clever, so noble."

He continued to sit unresponding as she began taking down his notes and erasing his hard drive once again.

"You'll be a great hero some day, just like I was. But not yet, sweet."

Keeping parts of our lives secret was kind of a normal thing , that’s what my parents always taught me. Mainly because we have powers and it makes us a target and those around us. But the thing I could never understand was that my parents never had some alter ego , and they seemed to be two of the most powerful people I ever knew , I once was my dad stop a literal earthquake while my mom stopped a volcano once , but they always manage to avoid getting noticed or recognized.

One thing I’ve begun to notice though is my dad looks eerily similar to a villain from some old photos and videos , not much survived the ages but he looks just so… similar… and my mom … she looks like the hero who always took him down… but I mean my dad is awesome , he never does anything even remotely bad and everyone says he has a heart of gold…

I decided to actually do some digging into this…. The similarities were uncanny and when I asked them they seemed shaken by it but quickly denied it , they forget I have powers too so even if they tried to hide it I could feel and see something was up…. Did they know them? Was it their siblings?? I had to know…

I tried to find as many older pictures of my parents I could , I remembered all those stupid cheesy “ well I met her back in college” but the story change slightly sometimes, I found proof to back from an old family video , my mom was talking to a friend in the back , I focused my hearing on it , Matridel college when they studied chemistry…. Hmm I remembered just last week my dad last week saying it was Hallimond university for physics and computers…. And she never corrected him on it… then I remembered something… my dad had a birth mark on his back, pretty noticeable too if he didn’t have a shirt on

So I scrounged up every photo of that villain I could , the suit they wore covered them up pretty well but there was a bit of photos and a few videos where they were scrapped up and the outfits were torn…

Then I found one , half of his outfit was torn and there it was… the same birthmark… it wasn’t a sibling…. It was him! And that must mean my mom was really…. But every record says they are dead… yet my parents must be them….

With my new evidence in hand I’m going to confront them tomorrow…

"Son, it's time we had the talk." My Father told me after knocking on my door, my Dad right behind him.

"Um yeah, what's up?" I asked as I scooted over to the wall on my bed. Please don't let this be what I think this is.

"Honey, we have been with you for so many milestones in your life." My Dad started before sitting down on my bed, as my Father squatted down towards me.

"Your Dad is right, and we are so proud of the person you are becoming."

"So proud." my Dad agreed nodding his head. "However as you get older you may realize some changes that may be happening."

Oh god no. My mind was racing a mile a second.

"You may start feeling things about yourself, and about other people, and that's completely normal."

"Completely normal." Dad nodded along with Father's statement. "We just want to let you know whatever you are feeling is valid, and we love you."

"The truth is..." Father started "Your father and I are were an ex superhero and super-"

"I THINK I LIKE GUYS." I blurted out loud. Wait. What

My Father covered his mouth in surprise, as my Dad looked equally shock. My Father turned to Dad asking "Should we continue what we were telling him-?"

Dad quickly brushed it off "No, no this is far more important." before staring at me. "Honey! When did you figure this out? How long have you felt this way? Are you okay? Were you scared-? Oh I'm so sorry if you were scared-"

"Let the boy take one question at a time Super Boy." Father patted Dad's shoulder.

"Yeah yeah, Dark Moth." Dad scoffed.

"I'm sorry, what did you just say before that?" I asked, still very dazed about my surroundings.

"Oh that was nothing really, we can talk more about it later. Oh gosh, we love you so much, please tell us everything." Father told me before hopping over to sit right beside me on my bed.

"Everything." Dad chimed in too sitting on the opposite side of me. I smiled and nodded, deciding whatever just happened before could wait.

“Nope! Not a word from you!” The young man slammed his spatula on the dinner table when an older man raised a finger and was just opening his mouth. They looked quite a lot like each other, sporting the same dirty blonde hair and eyes of zircon green. However, his facial features were much more delicate – something he took after his mother, who was quietly wiping her cold sweat away from her forehead.

The husband and wife quickly exchanged a glance with each other as what happened 18 years ago replayed in their minds. They would have one final fight, one final duet before forever calling it quits. It would be their Magnum Opus, a performance so great that it would be remembered through the ages. Unfortunately, as they waltzed above an island in the middle of the Pacific, they miscalculated. They triggered a volcano eruption.

And not just any volcano, a supervolcano.

In order to stop a global catastrophe from engulfing the world, the Guardian and the Sorceress Queen combined their power to siphon the energy off from the super volcano and divert it into themselves. The volcano still went off, but it would no longer trigger a nuclear winter. However, the superhero and supervillainess both fell in battle as they exploded in a burst of scintillating light. The superheroes and supervillains couldn’t even find a trace of them. Their sacrifice would be passed down in history as a rare moment when a hero and villain worked together to stop a worldwide disaster, an example that all of them should strive toward.

Despite their survival, the two decided to call it quits and finally settle down together. They had enough of the charade anyway. It was definitely not because of the fact that what happened would make their insurance premium shoot up into the stratosphere should they want to continue superheroing/supervillaining.

“Honey… We can explain,” The beautiful woman tried to break a smile. However, when the youth gave her a glare, she felt like a snake was staring down at a rodent. Unfortunately for her, she was the rodent in this case. Ah, their beloved son. The proof of their love and their pride. Despite barely being of age, he was already as powerful as them at the height of their power. And luckily for them, he was blessed with domestic skills too. They could only survive off TV dinners for so long.

“Oh, yes. You’ll explain alright…” The youth grabbed a printed article and pointed at the picture that filled half a page. It was the picture of the youth smiling at a camera and the picture of the Guardian at the corner with a caption underneath it saying: “The Guardian’s surviving son found?! Saved dozens from a burning building!”

The resemblance was uncanny.

Normally, he would think that it was just some nonsense that the media cooked up. However, he would never mistake his own old man for someone else. Even if he was wearing a pair of ugly spectacles nowadays. He didn’t even have to dig too deep into it before he found out that the Guardian’s nemesis, the Sorceress Queen, looked exactly just like his mom without the heavy makeup and that ridiculous gothic dress and crown.

“My dad is the Guardian and my mom is the Sorceress Queen?” The young man groaned as he slumped into his chair and left the spatula on the table before covering his head with his hands. He was already having a headache when he thought about the horde of paparazzi outside on their lawn and on the roads right now. He couldn’t even take the trash outside, and it was almost collection day already. “The HOA is going to have a field day with this…”

“Well… The HOA is going to be the least of our problems…” the Guardian mumbled.

“What do you mean?”

“On, right,” The Sorceress Queen slapped her forehead. “Since this means we’re technically found out, daddy dearest is going to pay us a visit very soon.”

“Huh?” The youth asked, as confused as ever. “Daddy dearest?”

“Your grandfather. He never approved of our marriage… He promised to leave us alone as long as we keep things a secret. His edict basically shields us from all sorts of divination, but now…” She shot up from her chair and quickly headed up the stairs. “Alright, honey. Stop moping around and help me pack up! We have to leave before the rest finds out…”

“The rest?” The youth gave his mother another confused glare.

“The entire extended family. And then, there’s the Superhero League and the Coven of Shadows… I mean, we have a lot of friends and enemies, and I’m not sure whether they’re that thrilled to find out that we’re alive after all.” The youth’s dad counted as he too left the table and climbed up the stairs together with his wife to pack up. “Why are you still sitting there? Come on, get moving. We’ll explain everything else on the way, but we really need to go right now…”
