I don't think a false hydra creates fake memories? Just deletes the person. So you just won't remember that you had a spouse. But with the prompt you would remember someone else marrying you.
Although that was probably a subconscious inspiration!

If a person's wife gets eaten by false Hydra they have to wonder how all of these women's clothes got into their room

Also the one person left thing is unique since false hydra stories are usually one 'fogotten' party member the DM makes up.
