While the onboard computer does not have the raw materials needed for repairs, it calculates that it has a very large amount of organic matter and a genetics lab. I wanted to keep it optimistic. A cynical or pessimistic AI might kill the passengers or give up. Optimism and hope keeps us moving forward.
