Whaddup! my wife and I are about to move to the area from TX. I’m currently very involved in the DFW music scene, so I’m curious about the scene up in Worcester and the surrounding area.

(I used to work at a DIY punk venue, played with a post-punk band, a hiphop trio, an indie band, a bluegrass band— in other words, I’m pretty much down for whatever lol)

where are the local shows at? what are some good local bands? how’s the community in general? Etc. etc. gimme ur knowledge, plz

Palladium has a ton of metal/hardcore shows with some big names rolling through along with smaller local support. I’ve seen so many unbelievable bands there. They also have hip hop shows but I’ve never been. Highly highly recommend this venue

came here to say the Palladium! I've been seeing shows there since 2000 and I concur, I've seen so many awesome bands there. I even saw Kanye West there back when College Dropout first came out and no one knew who he was (obviously because he wouldn't be caught dead there today). John Legend opened for him! He was incredible.

Ralph’s Diner is great for smaller punk/crust/grind shows, for bigger metal bands EVERYBODY plays the Palladium, it’s more accessible here than Boston so it’s the go-to for most, and for really big bands, the DCU center. Hell, Iron Maiden played there tonight.

Ralph’s still has some great metal bands play though, even if they aren’t big name arena type players. They had Demilich there this year. I think if you prefer “smaller” names or strong local bands Ralph’s is a really great venue for that

In the general region you have Providence which gets some good acts that don't come through Worcester. Check out Columbus Theatre or Performing Arts Center or Bold Point Park in the warmer months, just to name a few venues.

The DIY punk scene is good but not as big as it was 5+ years ago. Lots of great local bands to check out. Venues to look for as some others have said are The Raven, Ralph’s, Electric Haze, and some house venues you’ll need to “as a punk” for the address to
