My personal opinion which does not make it right simply my opinion is that martial arts in general is kind of a joke what they really needs to be out there is programs for your kids can go to to learn how to deal with bullies how to deal with an escalation non-physically and defensively should have become physical. Especially for those parents who've never been in place to have to teach them to a child. Does the program exist that I don't know about?

You need to find a martial arts school that actually has self defense as a primary focus. There's a lot of bullshit out there, but there is also real solid places.

Try the villari's in westborough. Not too far from Worcester, affordable, and excellent focus on self defense. Even the little kids get talks about "nobody gets to touch your body or try to hurt you" and appropriate levels of response to keep yourself safe and practicing different scenarios.

Why don't you start one? Write some grants, get some funding.

Good idea, guy.

I would look at Jiu Jitsu or boxing, as a lot of MMA fighters seem to have a background in those and had their start in those. If you teach your kid how to really throw a good punch he/she will probably be way ahead of 99% of the kids in school.

I’d suggest go to a boxing gym. Boxing is superior for self defense and builds a great physique. It’s also the most practical form of fighting for regular people.

Brazilian Jujitsu is the best type of jujitsu as it teaches takedowns and grappling. Both of which are extremely useful for real life street encounters.

Sadly as for verbal deescalation there isn’t much outside of security guard training/employee exercises. Probably because verbal encounters are very situational and depending on the mood of persons involved.

Whereas physical is usually always the same regardless of mood.
