Starting my 2022 taxes revealed that I qualified for the WA state EITC refund. Do I need to actually file a WA state return to get the payment? I don’t wanna pay TurboTax or FreeTaxUSA to file for WA state 😬

You will have to apply to the Washington State Department of Revenue. You won't need Turbo Tax, etc. https://workingfamiliescredit.wa.gov/

This should be available through IRS Free File software options as well. TurboTax is not listed as one of the software options for this.

Yes, this is a brand new credit and you need to file a simple state form to claim it. If your income is less than $73k, use one of the options through IRS Free File that includes state returns for free:

https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile

I'm a volunteer with VITA, a free tax preparation program and we can also e-file both the federal and state returns for free. You can look up the closest location to you here:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers

Because this is so new we still are learning what is required for this credit. From what I understand you should include your state driver's license information and if you have children they need to be listed on the state form. You also need to answer a couple questions about residency (must have been a WA state resident for at least 183 days in 2022). There are some optional demographic questions.

You can find a list of supported tax filing software here; most of them have options through the IRS Free File program, so look there for free state returns.

There is no Washington state tax. I believe you have to apply directly. https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7027130/WFTC-Eligibility-Assistant

Hi - this is a brand new thing for WA state. It should be available through any of the IRS Free File options that include state returns. It's also available through VITA and probably AARP Tax-Aide, although I haven't confirmed that.

I am a VITA volunteer in the Seattle area and we are still learning about this credit.

Like @livenet2723 said go to WSDR website and file a claim! I believe you will be asked eligibility questions and you can move forward. Turbo tax will probably be updating their software after Feb 1st to reflect any new changes for WA residents! But if you filed early just go to the WA website and not turbo tax!

I'm trying to find out if there's programs or services or other portals through which one can get the WA state EITC without paying for Turbo Tax to file something on your behalf. I have done my taxes by myself for years otherwise. It's not a matter of putting in work or not, it's trying to get information. BE GONE TROLL.

Its hilarious how ppl who wanna claim others who make less than 50k yearly don't want to work for their money are often the same people who simp for the rich, like they think making a billion a year is from lots of hard work 🤣.
