I recently moved to Washington and have been getting everything transferred and I realized I don't know if I have a document for car registration if I was pulled over. Is proof of registration just the newly issued title or is it something else? Besides proof of insurance, registration and license, are there any other useful documents to keep in the car?

The registration will arrive with your plate tabs. It’s a greenish color. Make sure you sign it too. Don’t carry the vehicle title with you in the vehicle. Lock it up in a fire safe.

The certificate of title and and certificate of registration are two different documents. The title records the ownership of the vehicle, the registration records the current license status.

You should have received the certificate of registration when you licensed the vehicle. That's what you're required to carry. The title should be kept in a safe place - not the car. If It's lost or stolen you'll have to jump through a lot of hoops to replace it.

I have heard you can take a photo of your registration with your phone, and that’s acceptable. You don’t have to hand the officer your phone, just show them, same with insurance. They both have pretty sensitive info if someone were to break into your car and get ahold of them.
