My optometrist said I have great vision, so out of curiosity I asked if any patients had super human eyesight. He said one patient who he saw into his 80’s could see hikers 2/3rds up Si from the Dairy Freeze.

I would recommend going before summer , since it will be more crowded then

If you show up early (like 7am-ish), I've never found it to be crowded there, even in the summer. If you show up at noon, the parking lot will be full, and cars will be illegally parked every which way outside of the lot (which requires a pass).

I have quit trying to park in the lot, when I take my truck. Folks park in the entryway and exit, and I can’t fit to get out. Even with a pass, I park just outside so I don’t get stuck in the lot.

True, there are some very bizarre parking strategies there and you can get "parked in" a bit (or maybe a lot) sometimes!

Wow that seems crazy fast to me!

I do 24 minute miles lol , maybe it’ll take an average of 2.5-3 hours to get to the top.

That is crazy fast, mount si is all uphill and pain 😅

Did you use microspikes at all?

Fun_Minute_7840 OP t1_jdswbs4 wrote

I used microspikes after 2000 ft , but the snow was compact enough where you didn’t really need them.

Is it easier with snow pack at the top or more difficult? I've heard the hike is pretty hard near the top and requires some scrambling over rocks.

Fun_Minute_7840 OP t1_jdtl6hd wrote

If you want to get to the true summit , then yeah you have to scramble up some rocks , but it looked pretty sketchy so I didn’t do it. To get to where I took the pictures , which is where most people stop, it’s not difficult just with microspikes.

Any idea why those batches of trees were left in that clearing? Maybe to re-seed the area?

Are there still tame birds that eat out of your hand at the top? (maybe not in winter)
