People have not and will not be willing to switch to an income tax unless they put ironclad language in the bill that it’s revenue neutral and that the sales tax would be permanently reduced or replaced entirely.

We would anyone ever be willing to switch to an income tax it’s literally banned in the state constitution and also a terrible idea

Sales tax is regressive whereas an income tax can be progressive.

Great regurgitated talking point, thanks ! Seriously do you WANT to have to file state taxes every year? In reality if state income taxes happen you will get both taxes just like California. Income tax is not necessarily more progressive that’s just a lie they tell you to agree to more taxes. Regardless, Thank god it’s against the state constitution to impose one so even if morons want to enact one they can’t !

It's literally just factually correct. You cann't make a sales tax progressive. You can make an income tax progressive. That doesn't mean every income tax is progressive, doesn't mean income tax is inherently a better idea, or anything of the sort. I am simply stating a fact about income taxes that would be one reason people would support one.
And I'd rather we just not file taxes at all, every year, like real countries do.

It’s not a fact just because you say it is. Most sales taxes exempt necessary household goods and food. You could also impose high sales taxes on luxury goods that only rich folks buy like yachts planes and caviar. It is very possible to not make sales type taxes regressive. I’d support super high tax on luxury goods before I’d even support an income tax for Washington. Earned Income taxes crush the middle class that’s all they are for.

That's fair, most people when they say "Sales Tax" mean the single type used basically across the board in the US and don't mean things like a VAT tax, luxury tax, etc. If we mean the broader term then yeah it can be progressive.

Is it deliberate or thoughtless?
Kinda like undermining the citizenry from participating in their local government is their goal? Or they've always been like this and it's just now being noticed?

The author conveniently left out just how much groups like the Freedom Foundation (anti-labor hate group) do indeed harass public employees...constant mailings and anti-labor propaganda that have nothing to do with government transparency..."transparency" gets weaponized by these folks to justify what for them is seldom transparent.

The WA Legislature poorly markets their law changes for sure. I don't think people will be willing to try an income tax until these corrupt yahoos are out.
