Was rock hounding along some power lines and went into the woods maybe 100 feet away. Tripped over this half buried giant metal cable. I noticed it it seemed to be kind of coiled up as 10 feet away it popped up but going another direction. Didn’t seem to be going anywhere just like someone took a bunch of cable and left it. Was this just spare power line cable that got left in the dirt?

Probably trash from a logging operation 50 years ago or so. Perhaps when the power line corridor was cut.

Yep. I used to find rusty coils of 1” logging cables in the woods behind my house while tromping around.
