There were 2 healthcare providers in some reddit thread the other day who agreed that in their practice, they never see obese people over 50. Either they lose weight, or fall prey to obesity-related conditions.

Buddy most of the US is obese and makes it past 50. Morbidly obese I'd believe but honestly there is a frightening amount of obese people out there

The problem with that stat is that "obese" here is the clinical definition. I know several people that would be defined as obese but nobody would ever consider them that. That's not to say that there isn't an obesity issue, but the formal definitions are based off 19th century persons who had significantly different health statuses. BMI is useful for a population level tool and its nice to have decades of data, but it's not really useful for individuals

A lot of people got kicked out of the military when they put in a waist max measurement. They put in a bmi is low enough work around eventually but many people are heavy with muscle so they're still screwed

Over 50? Most people over 50 are obese.

Maybe all the obese 50+ are such beacons of health they never go in to the doctor

I call bullshit. I work in a SNF, there’s PLENTY of obese senior citizens.

Wait

But then again, they probably DON’T see them because they’re in the SNF.
