Foolish just due to the danger to himself?

There's no chance in hell I'd ever be able to live with myself if I didn't go in after my dog. And I know on paper that's the wrong move...but I personally probably wouldn't last more than a month if I just watched as my dog drowned and didn't do anything I could to save her...I'd be racked with overwhelming guilt.
