Are Samaritans supposed to be inherently bad?

Your question had me wondering so here you go : https://www.dictionary.com/browse/good-samaritan. Apparently they were heretics so Jesus used Samaritan to prove his point, is what I’m getting.

So, the article title is saying that the guys that saved the horse are herectics? /s
Asimov had a short writing about the term ("lost in non translation", part of "bicentennial man and other stories"), using the term this century is certainly deprecated; considering that a nationality should never be used as neither possitive or negative trait for anyone.

The Samaritan people were apparently ! ; ) I had no idea. And yes, definitely lost in translation, as so many things are nowadays. Hell, it doesn’t even need to be an old thing to be misunderstood. But I appreciate your intelligent response !

In the story a Jewish guy is beaten and mugged and then his own people ignore him as he dies including Jewish religious leaders and people with the means to help. Then the Samaritan goes above and beyond to help the mugged guy. Where samaritans generally clash with Jewish people. You could replace Samaritan with Jews and Muslims. Republicans and Democrats. Whatever you want. It’s not that Samaritans are bad they’re just a different people group and a rival.

No. In the Bible Jesus tells a story about a Jew that was mugged, beat up, and left for dead. A hewing priest walks by and does not help, so too does a Levite. Finally a Samaritan, who are rivals of the Jews, walks by and despite their differences and not having to do help he does the right thing and helps. Hence the term being used to those who step in to help those in need.

I see, everyday, what Asimov meant by "lost in non-translation". So many people get it wrong of "play fool" by the fact that early religion was actually a very racist discipline.
