Likely the first and only time I'll ever see my community in this subreddit. Well done SNOLAB!

There's going to be a lot of new SNO+ results published in the coming few years. Coupled with an increasing interest in adapting particle physics towards multidisciplinary applications, I sure hope it's not the last time we'll see SNOLAB on this sub!

Let us know if they get bought out by the DoD, will ya? If they aren't already involved somehow

The DoD, being American, has zero influence on a Canadian research facility.

I was being tongue in cheek, but if you think the American DoD has no influence on Canadian research, that's a... thought one can have.
The point of the joke, if you missed it, is that this research has potential the US would be interested in. I'm not funny so clearly it failed, but I promise you there's a meme format for it.

The principle behind applying this research towards homeland security is well-known, and the DoD actually have backed a neutrino detector dedicated to non-proliferation and monitoring called "Watchman".
Interestingly, OP is correct in that the American has no interest or influence on the experiment in the article. In fact, the SNO+ experiment (backed primarily by Canada and the UK) is actively competing with other upcoming American-led experiments backed by the DOE and DOD.

I guess I learned a fair bit today. Appreciate the info. I hope the person I commented on didn't think I was trolling.
