It's not that deep, just 2 Bataillon sizes. (My name is birth year, not deep either)

I don't think it was intentional in any way, but when the propagandists are already pitching this as Russia's righteous battle against Nazis why give them more ammo. Just send 2.02 battalions worth.

In case anybody is wondering, the Leo 1 is not great at fighting modern tanks because it is obsolete, thinly armored, and has only a 105mm gun. But it doesn't have to fight tanks. That what the ATGM's and MBT's are for. This will likely be used like a light tank to exploit breakthroughs and scout, and for protected direct fire support in support of infantry and other armored vehicles.

Also there's no way Russia has any modern tanks left.

Maybe a couple hundred T-80s and T-90s combined; both of which are just T-72s with mods.

T-80 is a different family of tank. They are the same family as the Ukrainian T-64.

Sending 88 leopards would be more fun, but not as effective

Could you imagine sitting in your mud filled trench, undergeared in a frozen artillery shelled farm land, watching your buddy Ivan bleed out because your soviet era tourniquet snapped in half, and just when you think it couldn't get worse you look over the ridge and see 88 leopards running down your position. You hoist your rusted AK to start mowing these cats down and the gun jams just as they get to your position. You look back to Ivan who's barely conscious as you go to say your goodbye, just to have a leopar rip your neck open as you begin to speak.

There were insane attacks by packs of wolves, on the russian and german lines in WW 1.

Why is this uplifting in any sense.

jacobwinton92 t1_j761pbb wrote

Cause the underdog is actually unifying us all and winning, and the villain is losing more than we could have imagined.

6

killertortilla t1_j73x068 wrote

Wouldn't call this uplifting. Obviously Ukraine is in the right and Putin is in the wrong, but war is never uplifting, no matter the context.

jacobwinton92 t1_j761lum wrote

When we stomped the Nazis and banished them, we all felt pretty uplifted. When Russia loses this war and we banish them, again the world will be uplifted.

War is sad, but why couldn't the villain getting his comeuppance by the whole world be uplifting? Something inspiring and unifying

killertortilla t1_j762nfb wrote

Because this isn't winning, it's just more war. When it's over we may feel relieved and uplifted but this is just more news that more people are going to die. Not everyone on Russia's side is a bad person. Plenty of them were brainwashed by the mountains of propaganda Putin uses to pacify his people.

jacobwinton92 t1_j7653a9 wrote

It's definitely winning when the man in a major country wants to set the world on fire to get what he wants, and you unify every corner of the world to stop him. We will most likely end up stronger as a world, because of this. Just like we did with WW2.

I also dunno if you can say "They public were just following putins orders" to the entire country. The public wants bloodshed. They want their free Ladas. The good russians that will make a difference in the future, left Russia already or are "not a factor" anymore.

You can still find it “uplifting” that Ukraine is getting the support it needs and feel bad that people are dying. Welcome to reality where things aren’t binary.

Why all the slow walking of weapons. Maybe in the beginning all these weapons would have helped. There wouldn't have been trillions of dollars worth of damage to Ukraine.

how is continuin to escalate a war uplifting news. at least the Euro nations are stepping up not expecting everything to fall on the americans pocketbook. this is a european issue that we should have stayed out of from the start.

You know who loved to see America isolated in WW2? Hitler. It was the most important requirement if he was to conquer the planet that America remain neutral for as long as possible. Now that Hitler 2.0 is trying to conquer Europe again, keeping America isolated is literally straight from the playbook of Putin. So if something keeps the new Hitler contained it really is uplifting. Only Putin can or has the responsibility of deescalating as everybody else is defending against his aggression, not the other way around.

Not sure why you got down voted. The whole reason we got the cold war to end was to say NATO would never expand further east and this is the consequences of just that.

Well, that’s Putins excuse. In reality, it’s about a multibillionaire with too much power using his slaves as pawns for his & his Oligarchs gains. Deep Water Ports, Coal, Steel Industries, Food Bowl black soil plains and precious and rare metals, natural gas basins and more $. You see, Putin will have more countries sharing his precious borders over a greater land mass because he’s trying to expand Russian interests further to the west. Who’s next after Ukraine? He needs to be stopped now. 2014 would have been better, but now is the last opportunity to put the dog in a cage and under control for the sake of the whole of the free world. How the world responds now to Putin will determine the fate not only of Ukraine, but the rest of the free world as leadership in countries like China, India, North Korea and others watch on chewing on popcorn.

Sadly, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have paid with their lives, livelihoods, homes and more while world leaders across he globe have sat on their hands (no, not all, but many). Tens of thousands of Ukrainian children have been stolen to bolster Russias future gene pool and probably 10’s of thousands of Ukrainian women have been stolen to Russian territories as slave labour. Acts of genocide. Ukraine will be morning their losses for generations.

Tanks can be uplifting when you’re facing an existential threat and suddenly, you’re given equipment and training to enable you to fight to protect what’s yours.
