This could be great news! Pancreatic cancer is a particularly nasty disease, with a roughly 95% fatality rate.

I feel like I keep hearing about these ways to beat cancer for years and years, but where do they go? Are they stuck in trial for decades?
Mrischief t1_j6uayiu wrote
It depends, showing promise in mice / or culture is one step. The next steps are harder, so yeeeeay for base science, but dont let it fool you to think it will be ready in a year (if memory serves, 5-10 years is the norm for drugs)

Check this out if you got time to kill one day:
It is stock market related but it gave me a good idea of how the process works and how long it takes.

If humans had mice as pets the way we do dogs, we could do some wild stuff with all this technology

One thing to keep in mind is that treatment for a lot has gotten better.
My mom just finished chemo for breast cancer and they talked to her a lot about how much better treatment is in a lot of cases than just 10 years ago.

Wasn't the thing from Resident Evil called the T-virus which modified the cells. Similar name, but those side effects are a bit worrying.

Chemo just stopped working for me. Held it back for about 10 months, now progressing again. Future for me sucks..

To be fair, the way we use experimental animals (and their service) is to have human like tissue with “faults” in them to get cancers etc. But for sure there would be some darn survivable mice and rats arouns

mRNA is unlocking things so quickly...
Almost like they needed a way to get it to be accepted for the future biotech races.

Also, there are 100s of types of cancers, and many have subtypes. Even if we find one “cure” it will only work in a small percentage of cancer patients.

Fuck cancer man, some bullshit. Why couldn’t it be simple

I'm really sorry to hear that.

Cool, another treatment no one can afford, unless you're rich that is!

Many small biotech companies fall prey to predatory powers on the stock market and are basically shorted into oblivion. Which in turn makes it hard for said company to get funding from the appearance of not performing well as a good return. Then the company goes down and research halts and is dead in the water. Not the sole reason but one of them.

It's a bit like planting trees. The ones you plant today will be mature in 10-20 years (just as an example, I know there are fast growing trees), the more you keep planting the more trees there will be around.

Are you saying that you think a shadowy cabal created and unleashed a global pandemic resulting in many millions of deaths in order to shift public opinion in a positive direction in regards to the underlying technology of their vaccines?
Mrischief t1_j6x63t8 wrote
That analogy is good :)
