and I've been looking at the schedule to go to Hudson Table down in harbor point for a cooking class. It looks a little pricey but I guess I didn't imagine it being cheap

Same! After being out of college and working for years, I’ve been wanting hop back into a classroom to learn something. Learning on YouTube doesn’t quite feel the same as having an instructor there to guide you.
Hoping to hear if anyone had experience taking classes locally. I saw Stamford Public School’s Office of Adult and Continuing Education (stamfordadulted.org) offered various classes. I wonder if those classes are worth a try.

I’ve also been eying the schedule for Hudson Table. The price is holding me back a bit too.

Norwalk Community College Spring 2023. Can search for other semesters. Just leave the subject blank and you’ll get all the available classes. Some notable options include piano, guitar, drawing, boating, various languages, computer science, yoga, photography, acting.
Search specific interests on Groupon.
And finally I’d just search specific interests in Google. That’s how I found a nearby adult ASL class when I was living in Hartford.

Check the library! Often libraries will have classes and programs that are free or low cost.

Oh wow that’s so cool! I hadn’t heard of the studio before. Are there a lot of people in the class? Do you work on small projects each session, or just one big one the whole semester?

you start with learning how to use chisels to create a spoon. after that project, you create a box. after that, a stool using the lathe. i’m working on a live edge bench at the moment and it is beyond satisfying. the instructor is wonderful. there are still open slots for classes which are usually restricted to 4 people per class. i’m on my third semester. and have no plans of stopping. it’s addicting. and everyone in the class are so nice and super supportive of each persons victories. great sense of community

Thanks for the rec! I’ve been curious about pottery. How was the one time class? Are you enrolled in their Term Classes?

Oh I didn’t consider checking the lib, thanks! Is Ferguson Library the best one in the area? (Just moved here)

Thanks for the rec! Have you taken any of their cooking classes?

If you live in Stamford the Ferguson Library is where you will get a library card. I don't know too much about the libraries in the surrounding towns as I'm relatively new to Stamford as well. Sometimes a library will allow those that live out of district to attend programs, other times they do not. I just happen to be a librarian in a different county and know that many libraries will offer classes.

One time class was 3 hours and it was fun! I think they put the more junior instructors on those classes but she was still knowledgeable.
I am enrolled and those classes are much more in depth (obviously). You can sign up for studio time also so you can get the most out of class.
Tip: if you want access to early enrollment you can become a member by making a donation. The classes book up QUICK. I felt like I was buying concert tix the day I wanted to register. They do have dropouts so you can also put your name on a wait list.
Edit: They have a pretty informative website if you want to check that out!

I would also like to know of these sorts of things. When I was a kid I feel like there was unlimited services for learning the piano, singing lessons, cooking, recreational sports, and etc. Maybe they exist for adults but idk where.
