Moving to Stamford soon and I wanted to know what a typical monthly rent is for a 1Br.

At the moment I've set a budget of 1600. Not sure if that's low. Please advice.

Any areas to choose or avoid are also welcome.

It's going to be tough finding a 1 br apartment for that little in Stamford. The minimum I've seen is 2100.

You could get something cheaper but it’s usually…not great. Or a scum.

Yes $2000+ for a 1 bed, $1600 will get you a studio (if you’re lucky). The further you go from downtown the rents will decrease a little but not by much.

I’d look at Norwalk if you’re at that range. Stamford you’ll get a crappier 1br for that. Need like 2-2.5k for nice 1br

Find a compatible roommate and start an OnlyFans channel. Both tenants $1,600 will fetch a decent apartment and have cash for internet, streaming and heat.

They say you shouldn't spend more than 30% of your income on housing but that's largely outdated and most people spend 50%. In a comment you said you're earning $85k, so your take home is roughly $4,700 a month. You can afford up to $2,300 a month for an apartment — especially if it includes utilities or parking or other amenities as many do downtown. You can also choose to live outside of downtown and get a spare room in a multifamily home somewhere and it'll probably be cheaper by $200 - $500 a month.

Stamford has better and worse areas but it's not like other cities where there are "bad" areas. As a general rule, anything west of the river of east of the train tracks is going to be a worse area (the "west side" and "east side"). This is also true for the South End for any building that isn't a BLT building ("Harbor Point"). Again though, these areas just haven't had significant investment in decades but they're not crime infested. Everything North of the downtown is standard suburbia and it gets less and less dense as you go further north.

You might be able to find a studio for that. If possible, you’d be better off finding a roommate and a 2br apartment in the 2700-3300 range

I was in Harbor Landing (not harbor point) and had a 1 br for 2.1k. you can maybe find a 1br in a house for for less than 2k but unlikely

What should be the income range for someone to be able to afford 2.1K?

I'm probably going to make 85+ K ... Is that enough?

Rule of thumb is to keep rent 30% of your annual income. With this rent you'll be at about 25%. You can definitely afford it.

I used to live on Bedford(downtown) Studio for 1450. It’s doable , you just gotta spend time and look
