Hello!
r/StamfordCT's moderation team has largely been inactive for months. One of the mods added me after I offered to help out. With that change, I wanted to share some slight changes:
- r/StamfordCT now has rules. They're pretty basic: 1) Don't harass other users and 2) Promotion needs to be marked with a flair. I'll do a bullet for each.
- Don't harass other users. Stamford is a small community! It's not so large that you can meet someone at a bar and never see them again. You probably will see them again. Multiple times! With this in mind, I am taking this rule very seriously. Do not be a jerk to others. More importantly if you dox, brigade, or stalk another user you will be permanently banned. Please be mindful of this. This applies to business owners and local politicians. You can still express your opinion or your personal experience, but if you post someone's address, phone number, or something similar β that's completely unacceptable.
- Promotion must be marked with a flair. This rule may change but we're trying it out. Most people come to this subreddit for two reasons 1) apartment suggestions and 2) looking for things to do. The natural response to both of these questions is promotion of some kind. With this in mind, we will allow posts advertising housing or events in town but they need to use the "Promotion" flair. I'll be doing this manually for a little bit but after that I'll just remove the posts. If this community gets overrun with promotion, or if the community regularly downvotes them, we'll revisit how to approach this.
- There is now user flair for your neighborhood. I used the city's distinction for the names.
- I want to acknowledge this page has been unmoderated for years. When I logged into the mod dashboard there were 5+ years of unviewed reports. Most of them were not rule-breaking offenses of any kind ("this guy is rude"), but some of them were pretty disturbing. If you reported something in the past and got frustrated nothing happened β things are different now.
Last word about me personally. I'm active in this subreddit and Stamford's community but my contributions to this community are separate from my moderation of it. As a mod, I just want to keep spam out of here, keep people safe, and ensure this community continues to grow. Stamford benefits from more community and I hope this page helps to that end.
Open to any suggestions or hearing any concerns. Feel free to DM me if the information is sensitive. Thanks!
