an english person could look at dutch and read it without trying, because they both use the latin alphabet.
I suppose so…I mean it wouldn’t be comprehended but sure I guess it’s “read”. Looking at an alphabet of another language is like looking at a piece of art. You don’t understand what it means but you can give it your interpretation of meaning.
yeah
That is true for me and I thought that was true for everyone, but my ex-wife, who was dyslexic, explained that she has to concentrate on reading each word, so just looking at a word would mean nothing to her.
Any time one of those software licensing agreements comes up that you have to scroll through to accept I can do a very good job of seeing it and yet not reading any of it.
if i unfocus my vision i can
also as upstockjock mentioned there’s different languages
Correction YOU cannot look at text and not read it. As someone with adhd i do this frequently.
You say that, but i’m really tired and i looked at this 7 times before i actually had to focus and read it
This is a friendly reminder to read our rules.
Remember, /r/Showerthoughts is for showerthoughts, not "thoughts had in the shower!"
(For an explanation of what a "showerthought" is, please read this page.)

I definitely cannot read “texts” of ancient languages or Russian, Arabic, etc, but I can look at it. I’d rephrase this to, “You can’t look at text and not read it for languages you know”.
