My girlfriends grandmother is 100. She loves it. Sure it has its downsides but she says it’s better than the alternative.

Sure but basically those who don't live as long get to those 85+ years sooner. I used to hear "No one wants to live those years anyway" as a snide response to the idea that smoking takes years off your life.

It's not that it takes the bad old decrepit years away; it takes away healthy years and brings the unhealthy ones sooner.

It’s lonely and you start losing your cred at 68 so be prepared to reinvent yourself!

My great grandma is 94 is healthy for a woman her age. She has the strength to travel from Canada to Vietnam every year (we’re overseas Vietnamese). Of course, she needs help getting around sometimes, but she seems to be loving her age. Spending time with her children, grand children, and great grand children.

That 9th decade is ROUGH, especially for men. I forgot where I heard that, but it’s gotta be true.

EDIT: Heard it on the Tim Conway Jr. show when he was talking about the tough times his dad was going through before he passed away

Depends on health. All my 80 plus relatives are deeply unhappy with limited quality of life. All have openly said they'd like to die already. I try to help them as best I can. I've moved in with my grandparents to support them now Nana is terminally ill. I dont want to live past 75. I've seen some shit and it's not looking good for me genetically speaking.

like the dude a batch above in high school who said his greatest fear is "growing old and slowly deteriorating" and that he'd rather "die young and in his prime". heard from some classmates at a reunion that he'd died last year in a car accident while street racing so...wish granted, sort of...?

Health is everything. Some have good health at 85 others don't. Late 50s are already painful, I can't imagine being anything but a ball of pain at 85.
