No. There is poverty because the systems we live in require poor people to continue functioning. Our problem isn't lack, never has been. It is the disproportional distribution if wealth and power. Those with W & P conveniently make rules to grow their own wealth and power , and removed the checks and balances in place to keep us from being on the Titanic. Pro- athletes are NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE PROBLEM...jeez the owners, coaches etc all make more...

You don't want money going to people who kick the needy, but too many times money does go to already rich people who kick the needy....

We don’t pay athletes with tax money. It’s paid with ad deals, licensing and ticket/on demand sales…

There is poverty because wealthy people make laws to keep everyone else working themselves to death. Minimum wage and average worker wages have not kept up with inflation and certainly not with CEO or athlete pay.
Specifically you can thank Ronald Reagan and republicans for reducing the top tax bracket, which led to the modern era of wealth inequality and greed in Washington, Hollywood and in sports. Trickle-down economics work great for the people on top, that’s for sure.
