Except when your mental capacity is that low, you're not intelligent enough to realize this, and end up thinking you're somehow smarter than everyone else for not believing it. (flat earthers, anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, climate deniers, etc)
But because you do understand that certain scientists are being paid by corporations that have a vested interest in the outcome of their studies, is pretty good reason for skepticism
You may have butchered that with “science isn’t the evidence”? I’d suggest that science is the process by which way we examine the evidence to see if it’s valid and meaningful.
Maybe “Because you don’t understand the scientific evidence is no reason to believe that the science isn’t based on valid evidence.”
