Edit: I just want to emphasise that I fully agree with OP and I'm specifically talking about why Harry has bad eyesight and not excusing why countless others have bad eyesight.

I hate to be a Harry Potter nerd, but canonically Harry's bad eyesight was caused by the same thing that caused his scar. We know because when Harry dies in book 7 and goes to King's Cross with dumbledore, he no longer has a scar or bad eyesight. That's because when you go to the afterlife in Harry Potter, only your soul is moved on and not damages that have happened to your physical being in life. Before anyone mentions it, ghosts, like nearly headless nick, still have injuries gained in life because they chose to stay on the earth to be as close to life as they can be, which would naturally include damage to their physical self.

But what about all the other wizards who wear glasses (from Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall to James Potter and Moaning Myrtle, among many others)?

Yeah you're right, it's kinda surprising that they can regrow an arm over night but can't fix poor eyesight. I was talking specifically about Harry seeing as he's the main character.

Why the downvotes tho? Is being a Harry Potter geek really that worst?

Honestly, eyesight is one of the most delicate parts of your body, and a wizard would need to practice the magic, my guess is they don't want to blind anyone and permanently fuck up a wizards eyesight

It's just easier to fix the glasses is what I'm saying

Transmog though

Yea but even that requires practice, one wrong move in transmog and your goblet keeps a rat tail

One wrong move with someone's eyeball they end up blinder then they were before

Considering how much using spells go awry in those movies, I think I’d rather just wear glasses

What if they just don't want to fix it? They could even use tablets to read as the story is clearly set in modern times, but they prefer an old school library.

Yeah it said in the book that magic interferes with technology so electricity and tablets would just break
