Ignorance is blissfully shortsighted but life is about learning and growing.

Disagree wholeheartedly. Alzheimers looks way worse than PTSD or depression.

Looks is key here. If you have Alzheimer’s or something, you will be ignorant and thus, happier than remembering something traumatic.

A lot of the alzheimers/dementia cases I’ve heard about, the person has moments of lucidity where they convey confusion, sadness, fear, anger. I would rather remember a traumatic event than experience one during my twilight years, surrounded by horrified loved ones whom I increasingly no longer recognize but feel like I should. All while I slowly die.
Like you say it LOOKS bad. We can’t know exactly what its like to experience that. But I DO know what PTSD feels like and there is still hope there. Alzheimers.. it doesnt get any better with time.
I would rather live than die. It basically comes down to that. Remembering might mean suffering, but forgetting is death to the mind.
I can respect the opposite point of view, but to me suffering is preferable to death always. Life is for living; surving. Mind is for thinking; remembering.

Well that's what a traumatic memory is. Your brain will block out trauma and you won't remember it. It's protecting you from that memory. You may never remember, or you may someday remember.
