I have a handful of unique pairs, but a lot of plain white and plain black pairs. Those ones get mixed and matched, and I wonder how often they've been matched back up with their original companion.

for school reason, all my socks are knee-hight and black. I think that they have never been matched correctly

Ughh, I hate the feeling of one slightly worn sock on one foot and one slightly less worn sock on the other foot. Every pair of socks I own has a unique motive, pattern or colour. If one within the pair fails, they both go.

Same. I wouldn’t want to be a monosock, even though it must make laundry marginally easier.

I think you’re overestimating the time it takes to pair a weeks worth of socks in comparison to the overall task of laundry.

Not really. It takes me maybe a minute to get laundry thrown in and started. Maybe a minute to switch to dryer, clean the lint and toss it, then start the dryer. My bedroom is literally attached to the laundry room/bathroom. I don't sort my clothes in any fashion. Laundry is about 3 minutes.

Separating the socks would absolutely double my time doing laundry at minimum.

That sounds good but I imagine that’s hardly a typical laundry timescale for most people; certainly not for me.

I line dry whenever I can, for example. Dryer is more for wet days or “I need this now” emergencies.

Well it is winter. In the summer I usually just use the dryer for socks and underwear because they're a pain to line dry. In the winter I redirect the exhaust back into the house. Why waste the heat? But in summer, even venting outside, it's a lot of leftover heat I need to cool off. So you have a point there.
