My LED candles still use IR

It's not dead yet.

Will newer generations even have TVs?

I’d imagine they’d be completely replaced by smartphones and XR headsets in the near future.

Yup. IR has got the distinct advantage of not requiring spectrum licensing. And as far as I can tell, we are not quite done exploring the opportunities for bandwidth and reliability optimizations affforded by that medium, the way we did with copper and fiber optics in the last two decades.
