So essentially, deer decline starts with about 75% left and ours starts with like 83%. Why do we peak so early in our lifespan?

Deer don’t live 17 years. 7 or 8, max.

That's why is said can. Physically they CAN live 17, they get hunted and killed in the wild, but there's been studies to show their physical average max lifespan is about 17.

while there have been unique outliers, you'd be hard pressed to get one past 12 in the safety of captivity.

if you're going down that road, why don't you lead with the premise that humans live to 115?

not sure how you can have an average maximum, but you do you.

True but if you look at stats from non hunting areas you will find the upper end for a buck is 8 and 11ish for a doe. Giv a healthy full ecosystem with pre

My (non-expert) guess is that we were not supposed to live this long? Only two centuries ago living to the age of 70 wasn't really a common accomplishment.

Yeah I'm not a science expert either, I thought that was the point of shower thoughts, but oh well.

I agree that your theory makes sense. And my 17% is based off of max age (oldest human was 125) which is why I compared to max age of deer (even though it's rare deer make it to 17 in wild) for some continuity.
