They are pointless in that sense, but they are nice places to walk around in & have some green space, especially in urban environments.

Then I’d much rather see a park or a children’s playground built. Then a place with hundreds of tombstones of people long forgotten that know one even cares about anymore

I guess. Idk, I do photography & really enjoy shooting in cemeteries. I don't think a playground would really set the same tone.
