People know it's illegal-- they aren't asking for permission. They're dead set on circumventing it and asking here if anyone has "a guy" more or less or how to take it off and reapply at a lower cost. I've never had tinted windows in any state, so the desire is lost on me (minus someone who posted with Lupus, that really made sense).

If it was legal I would do it. I had it in MA but removed it when I got here... as it was illegal.. *shrugs*. I enjoyed having the UV protection and dark windows but not enough to get a ticket.

Genuine question, but doesn't it make visibility atrocious at night? MA is already like the darkest state I've ever had the displeasure to drive through.

At what cost? Good tint (not your buddy doing it in the driveway with tint from Walmart) is at least $300. You're gonna shell that out every two years for vanity?

Go to eye dr. get a note written saying the sun bothers your eyes. It’s a work-around in some states.

(Most) Cops don’t bother you unless you have your windshield tinted.. and those are words that I’ve heard come out of multiple cops mouths. 3/4ths of cops have their windows tinted anyways.
Your only problem is gonna be inspection unless you know somebody. And even thats getting harder because they have to take pictures of your car now.

Me personally: my left arm gets darker than my right in the summer without it, my car is significantly cooler in the summer time, not as bright inside the car, some privacy in my car, and most importantly, I don’t want people staring at me while I pick my nose lol.
My tint isn’t that dark though. I followed MA law for tint even though I’m in RI, and cops don’t bust my balls. I’ve been pulled over for other stuff, and they just ignore the tint all together.
MavDrake OP t1_j3y8k3v wrote
Not for me. Abet my vehicle sits low enough that most trucks and suv headlights pear into my back window so the tint is awesome.
TheOGJayRussle t1_j3y8lxv wrote
Yeah RI sucks for tint, when I moved back here from CA I kept getting pulled over, as I was blacked out all around, which is OK in CA

PipeLayer2016 t1_j3y9nfb wrote
No, RI is awesome for tint. Mofos don't have a habit of using turn signals, so seeing your eyes is all I have to go off of. Tinted front windshields are for people who are up to no good. You probably have red or blue running lights too
_wheresMySuperSuit t1_j3y9p4i wrote
You can call BS if you want, I don’t care. I’m telling you what I know and have heard from cops themselves.
My windows are tinted and I’ve been pulled over and cops ignored the tint.
I overheard a state trooper tell a kid that he pulled over “I wouldn’t have pulled you over if it weren’t for your windshield”.
My brother in law got pulled over and the cop told him the same.
My other brother in law got pulled over and the cop made him peel off the windshield tint and let him go.
I saw a Providence cop. A cop that you have to do the MOST to make them get out of their car, bust a U turn on Manton Ave to pull over the car in front of me. I drove back down the road and after I stopped at the liquor store, and you guessed it, “Get rid of the windshield tint”.
Never in my 25+ years of living in Providence have I ever seen or heard of a cop using a tint meter outside of drivers ed classes*
PipeLayer2016 t1_j3y9uic wrote
That is awesome.
TheOGJayRussle t1_j3ya6b8 wrote
I have been pulled over in my car and other people’s cars by the tint police. Cops looking for tint are a special type of dick head, because the department doesn’t provide the meter they have to pay for it out of pocket.

Front tinted windows block the sun. All tiny blocks the sun, in Cali the lane of gangs it’s legal.

I know it was a thing when I was growing up. North Providence, Pawtucket, and all of Eastern RI (EP, Warren, Barrington, Bristol) we’re hot spots for tint. But I’m assuming that generation of cops has since retired, and the younger ones don’t care about tint because half of them have their windows tinted themselves, shit, they’re even allowed to have beards now!
Point is, I think it’s going to trend in the direction of MA, and be allowed 35% everywhere but the windshield. Nobody cares enough anymore and there are tint sops on every other corner in Providence.

I notice that people with tint don't seem to notice when I signal them to go. Maybe they are waving at me but I can't see them at all. Unfortunately it does cause some confusion I think.

Tint is childish unless you’ve got a legit eye condition. Inter-car communication is essential for safer roads. They are the type of people who are unwilling to acknowledge if you extended courtesy on the road, so you don’t owe them a moment of your time to do so.

And sides and back? Please. The desire for tinting precedes any factual necessity, just like insecure men whose loud motorcycles make them feel less pathetic claiming, “It’s for safety!” (It’s not.)
It’s also notable that far sunnier places in the world than RI don’t seem to have embraced the supposed “necessity” of window tinting. It’s mostly done by young men who are otherwise utterly unconcerned with the need to “block the sun” …

There are other benefits to tint besides vanity, like keeping the car interior cool and to prevent reflections entering the vehicle. Yes, there are people that take advantage of the tint and black their windows out but there are people who genuinely just want to have legal tint but these laws are too strict.
Just like anything people will take advantage of any situation and it screws over the others, which is unfortunate.

It's called sound damping ear muffs, like when you go to a gun range. I have a physical every year, ears are perfect, but what do Dr's know right? There are many frequencies our ears can't hear as well. Kinda like a dog whistle. Again, sound damping ear muffs when doing comps and in normy life never for an extended period of time. I hope delving into all this made you feel better 🤷♂️ Yet it seems doubtful. Have a good day Mr or Mrs Boring (aka get off my lawn)

Why can’t we have the same tint laws as MA and CT? Heck, tax tint at an extra 10% and put that into some police fund or similar.

What are you talking about?
Florida allows 28% in the front, 15% in the back (or 6% for SUVs)
California allows 70% on the front, and absolutely anything on the rear.
Arizona allows 33% in the front, anything in the rear.
What sunny place with more restrictive tint laws than RI are you referring to?
DankOverwood t1_j483dhk wrote
Yikes.
If you’re both turning left then you’re turning in opposite directions and you should go at the same time or whenever you want because assuming you’re driving in the proper line and are not towing something or driving a nonstandard vehicle there’s no way to contact each other.
If you’re turning left onto the same road as the other driver while the other driver makes a right turn, then that means the other person turning right has the right of way and should go first.
It’s really not a situation in which you should ever have to communicate at all with the other drivers around you.
bluehat9 t1_j4879pm wrote
I'd never go at the same time in a normal 4 way intersection here where we're both opposite each other and turning left. I feel I would absolutely get in an accident doing that
