Being an outsider, this really makes me wonder what the situation is with the HUD field offices, state agency, and lenders that is causing these "inefficient silos" mentioned in the article.

I've read that RI's housing situation is especially difficult, in part because there is so little investment on the affordable housing side.

I mean, I think if done well, it's a very important job and not an easy one by any stretch. We are talking about someone who manages a budget of millions of dollars to address a super important and super complex issue.

$190k is not an unreasonable amount for someone with the chops to truly make headway on leading us out of the housing and homelessness crisis. Which this guy probably was not.

The state is perpetually at the 10 yard line in opportunity and can't score a touch down due to mismanagement.

Only way to understand what the housing issue in RI is really about, is to ACTUALLY go through it. Be a part of it. Some politician making mid 6 digits a year hired to put out reports without ever having been intrinsically part of the process isn't going to get you anywhere.

I would have used those EXACT words if I thought that...🤦. Seriously dude. I guess only current homeless people qualify? Not those who have directly worked with those who are homeless. Or maybe someone who just experienced it for a short time during a tough patch, but was a "normal" person before and after and can bring that added perspective.

Clearly this guy didn't work. But he did expose the problem of there not being a centralized body that was supposed to provide oversite...which is what his office was supposed to do.

Pretty sure that problem was already exposed, which is why they made the position in the first place.

Have a governor who is less informed about the issues facing the community. The governor needs people in those kinds of positions because one single person can't manage an entire state by themselves.

RI is famous for its corruption and handing down appointments as favors or pay backs. Check out Crimetown podcast season 1. Basically the mafia went white collar over here.
