One of the Newport Mansions or Blythewood are my thoughts.

I love the ideas of the Athenaeum or botanical gardens! I’m excited for you. Our engagement was pretty… bland. I would love one of these spots. I feel like I’ve seen an indoor waterfall, but I don’t remember where.

Thanks! Yeah, I’m definitely trying to avoid “bland”. Every couple is different and some people are fine with low key. But I know she’s been dreaming of this for as long as she can remember and I’m hoping to make it a dream come true

Agree with these as well, also possibly the Observatory on Hope St.

Isn't there a spot that's meaningful to the two of you?

There are, but not places that work with what I’m envisioning if that makes sense

Roger Williams Botanical Gardens. Just had my daughters wedding there and the main room is gorgeous.

This is also a great place to break your elbow. I speak from personal experience.

I will keep that in mind for the next time I need to break my elbow

Ask the DJ to play your favorite songs in advance to properly set the mood.

If you break your elbow and immediately try to propose, the answer is gonna be 'no' usually. People make this mistake often, thinking that sympathy over a broken elbow would lead to a 'yes', but most people don't want to spend the rest of their lives with someone who can't admit they suck at roller-skating backwards.

Even the 1/100 sympathy 'yes' usually leads to a short and unfulfilling marriage.

I didn't say it was for a proposal, breaking an elbow can really zhuzh up any number of special occasions

True dat. A broken elbow can ruin all sorts of special occasions....birthdays, bar/bat-mitzvahs, holiday parties, weddings, funerals.

Really, just about an special occasion that isn't a ceremonial elbow-breaking.

How about somewhere that is meaningful instead of staged

anonymousgayfemme t1_j2q7bf4 wrote

Because the places that are special to us are generally busy and public, and we both prefer the moment to be private. There are many other reasons that I don’t want to list in case she finds this post.

Reach out to those places and see if you can get in before opening! If I got this request at work I'd be so excited to help. Can't hurt to ask.

That is something I considered earlier in the planning stages but there are quite a few reasons why I’m not going that route. Thanks though
