Hi everyone, I’m an amateur star gazer looking for good spots to bring my binoculars and or telescope. I want spots with less light pollution that are also safe to be in (don’t wanna trespass anywhere). I’d like to see more than just a few pins of light. I understand I wont be able to see the arm of the Milky Way, I just want more than I’m seeing in my heavily light polluted city lol. I have my sky eye map and the equipment just need the spot! Thanks!

Came here to say the same thing. You want dark skies in Rhode Island then this is the place.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the skies over Ninigret are the darkest skies you’ll find along the I-95 corridor between Boston and D.C?

Make sure you go on a night when it’s the New Moon.

Western RI, Burrillville, head out Rt 44 maybe to the George Washington Mgmt area or Pulaski Park on the CT border.

You can see the Milky Way in Foster.

Westerly - off-season, take your car on the beach trail on the shelter harbor / weekapaug side

Or can try quonnie beaches, off-season

There's a weird little spot out on the Western Coventry/Sterling line, I think it's part of the North South Trail, but you can get to it on Greenhouse rd. It's an area that's been recently clear cut to help rabbits or something (there's a sign there that explains it) but it's public land and its dark as hell out there at night with a nice hill to climb and unobstructed sky. If you're coming from the RI side it'll be a small parking area on your right and you'll see the opened up area from the road. It's a dirt road for a section so be ready, but it's fairly well maintained.
