I'm looking to run the Aquidneck 10k in March but I'm not a RI native so I am a little confused by what I've found regarding the Newport ferry.

  • Will it be running by the start of spring 2023?
  • If so, does it run every hour or something like that?

If the ferry doesn't run around this time, what would be the easiest way to get from Providence to Newport?

It’s a bit early to say when the ferry will start operating and the daily frequency. Here is the info from last season: link.. There are also RIPTA bus routes that run from providence to Newport all year with better frequency in case the ferry is not operating or the times don’t work for you. It’s about an hour from providence to Newport on a RIPTA bus.

I feel like the ferry from Providence doesn't start until well into June usually. The only explanation I could think of why it isn't a month or more earlier is that so much of their staffing is college kids.

I guess that makes sense. Everything on their website points to a June start too at least for this past year. Thanks!

I recommend taking a RIPTA bus. If you get the “Transit” app you can take a look at bus routes as well as on the RIPTA website. https://www.ripta.com/routes/60/

i'd also recommend showering in between the 10k and a 45 minute bus ride :)

depending on the route and time, you still have better than average odds to not be worst smelling person on the bus if you skip the shower though.
